A Comedy Self-help Podcast to Make Life Suck Less!

A Stroke of Insight

May 31, 2019

This week, we're reviewing the New York Times bestseller My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist’s Personal Journey by Jill Bolte Taylor, Ph.D.

And let us tell you... it is fascinating!

Bolte Taylor is a Harvard-trained neuroanatomist (brain scientist) who had a rare form of stroke on the left side of her brain in 1996. Within the span of four hours, she could not speak, read, walk, write, or remember anything from her past. She was able to understand what was happening to her while it was happening – and decided to undergo eight years of rehabilitation to bring the world her new and deepened understanding of the human brain and how the two hemispheres work together to create our reality.

She drops some profound self-help truth bombs as she explains the incredible science of our left and right brains!

She gave the first TED talk that went viral, has been named to Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2008, and her book is a NYT bestseller. So basically, she is amazing.

In this My Stroke of Insight book review, Misty and Lisa mainly cover these chapters:

  • 1. Jill’s Pre-Stroke Life
  • 2. Simple Science
  • 3. Hemispheric Asymmetries
  • 7. Bare to the Bone
  • 8. Neurological Intensive Care
  • 14. Milestones for Recovery
  • 15. My Stroke of Insight
  • 16. My Right and Left Minds
  • 17. Own Your Power
  • 18. Cells and Multidimensional Circuitry
  • 19. Finding Your Deep Inner Peace
